GIRL SKatezine

New generation of nostalgia

Girls Skateboard Co. represents a shift in skate culture, creating a space for voices that have long been overlooked. This “skatezine” concept leans into a raw, DIY aesthetic, by trying out bold layouts and grungy visuals to capture the energy and attitude of the skate scene.

I was inspired by many different skate magazines like Thrasher and CCS. I wanted to make sure the design stays true to the culture while giving it a fresh, personal edge.

Creative Process

I’ve always wanted to design a skate magazine, but most of them are already established or pretty competitive. So I focused on a skateboarding brand that doesn’t get as much attention in the scene, which gave me more freedom with the concept.

A lot of the research came from early 90s and 2000s skate magazines, trying to capture that nostalgic, raw feel. I also have fun making messy designs because I'm not restricted to rules.

To make it more personal, I added in my own illustrations and graffiti-style tags as a kind of signature, along with inspiration from my own music taste to finish it off.
